The company will announce two core business models: the “Carbonization Center Business Model”—an evolution of the carbonization business it has been promoting for 35 years—and the “Biomass Carbon® (biochar) and carbon credit model, as well as the Biomass Coke® coal substitute model for the steel industry.
■ Market Trends
With the progress of decarbonization, the market for biomass-derived carbon resources and carbon credits is expanding rapidly.
The biochar market is growing for agricultural applications and as a carbon sequestration technology, and is projected to reach approximately $860 million by 2025 and expand to approximately $2.7 billion by 2034 (an average annual growth rate of approximately 13%).
In heavy industry sectors such as steelmaking and foundries, where the capital investment burden for hydrogen conversion is significant, interest in Biomass Coke® as a coal substitute that can be introduced using existing facilities is growing.
■ Overview of the ZE Energy Carbonization Center Business Model
The carbonization center proposed by our company is a regionally circular carbon resource infrastructure that uses untapped resources such as woody biomass, agricultural residues, and food waste as raw materials to produce Biomass Carbon®, Biomass Coke®, and carbon credits.
■ Progress on Implementation Projects
We are currently advancing the implementation of carbonization centers in various regions across Japan, and are pleased to announce the following examples.
- Shogawa Area, Toyama Prefecture (Directly Operated by Our Company) – Scheduled to begin operations in summer 2026: Carbonization LABO Center (Annual capacity: 1,000 tons)
